What it measures
Builds a "volume force" from volume, the bar’s range and whether the bar’s typical price rose or fell, then takes a fast EMA minus a slow EMA of it, with a signal line.
How traders use it
- Crossovers of the oscillator and its signal line, taken in the direction of the trend.
- Divergence between price and the oscillator.
Parameters
| Name | Value | Default | Allowed | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| fastPeriod | 34 | ≥ 1 usual 20–50 | Fast EMA of the volume force. | |
| slowPeriod | 55 | any usual 40–100 | Slow EMA of the volume force. | |
| signalPeriod | 13 | ≥ 1 usual 5–30 | EMA of the oscillator used as the signal. |
Outputs
| Value | The oscillator. |
| Signal | An EMA of the oscillator. |
Drawn in one colour, one line per output, told apart by line texture. Hover the chart to read each one.
Good to know
This is Klinger's original formula. Some platforms ship a simplified version under the same name that gives different numbers.
